The first barbera wine was produced in the 13th century. Piedmont is the Origin of this wine which is a region in Italy. The ideal place to grow the wine grapes is a hot, hilly region, and Piedmont has these things that are mentioned above. 

In the end of the 19th century, the immigrants from Italy brought the barbera grapes to the western countries and planted them in California and Argentina.

Barbera wine is associated with the northwest part of Italy and Piedmont in the origin of Barbera grapes. Most of them are stored in the Alba and Asti, the towns in Piedmont. To ripe barbera in early-stage, these areas are suitable for growing barbera grapes. 

In the early stage of ripening grapes, they kept on lower slopes to get the shades. But for late-ripening grapes, the sunlight is the best thing. That’s why they kept on the top of hills.

This is the reason Barbera grapes are grown in the low slopes of the hilly region. The other countries that are working on the production of barbera are Australia, Greece, Romania, and Slovakia. In America, these grapes can be found in Argentina and California.

Barbera wine is considered as food-friendly and easy-drinking wine, that’s why it is gaining more popularity in Italy and all around the world. You can find this wine Acidic and fruit-forward. 

You will also taste the red fruits flavours in it like Cherry, strawberry and plum. Sometimes you can even feel the flavour of vanilla, nutmeg and clove. If you found an old Italian barbera from alba, you can have a taste of herbaceousness of minerality. 

Those barbera wines, which have been aged in oak will have an additional taste of incense, spice and sometimes even smoke.

Barbera is one of the best wines that can be enjoyed with the meal. It serves well with all Italian dishes like tomato-based sauces, Pasta with red sauce and pizzas of every variety and toppings.
